Users of the NMSS State Communication Portal that need access to any restricted areas of the portal site must have an NRC issued One-Time Password (OTP) credential to authenticate themselves. Additionally, they must have explicit authorization from the NRC to access each restricted area.

The PIN number is the 4-digit personal identification number (PIN) you picked when you activated your credential. The security code is a 6-digit number displayed on your OTP credential.

OTP Credential
If you do not have an OTP credential, the NRC Identity, Credential, and Access Management Program (ICAM Program) provides One-Time Password (OTP) credentials for NRC employees and contractors (internal users) and for non-NRC staff (external users). Internal users request OTP credentials from the internal ICAM OTP website and external users request OTP credentials from the ICAM External Credentialing Service website. (From both of these sites, follow the onscreen directions to obtain your credential.)

Restricted Areas
If you are an external user, you request authorization to access restricted areas at the same time as you are requesting your OTP credential. However, if you are an internal user, you request authorization to access restricted areas separately from requesting your OTP credential. If you are an internal user who needs access to restricted areas, send an email message to the point of contact listed below. Include the following information in the email message:
  • Your Name
  • Organization
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Restricted Sections (all areas to which you are requesting access)
  • Business Justification
If you are an internal or external user and you already have an OTP credential and you need to access additional restricted areas, follow the same procedures as described above for internal users to request authorizations to access restricted areas.

Log In
Enter your email address in the Email field. This is the email address that you used when you requested authorization to access this restricted area.
Enter your PIN number in the Pin field. This is the PIN number you defined when you activated your OTP credential.
Press the button on your OTP credential; then, enter the passcode from the credential in the OTP Credential field.
